Sido Kanhu Murmu University
Sido Kanhu Murmu University named after the fire-brand revolutionary leaders, Sido and Kanhu was established on 10 January 1992 by an Act in the Bihar Legislative Assembly. This is a result of a prolonged demand for the need of a University for the marginalised section of the people of undivided Bihar. It received 6 districts under its jurisdiction from Bhagalpur University of Santhal Parganas.
There are fifty constituent and affiliated colleges under its wing. Apart from offering traditional undergraduate and postgraduate courses, there are many vocational courses also offered by the University which includes subjects like Business Management, Computer Applications, Library Science.
Seminars, workshops and conferences are organised for the students and teachers.The students have also been invited by several national and international universities for paper presentations. Many prominent leaders of Jharkhand are alumni of the university.
The University has recently opened a creative dialogue with other universities in Jharkhand and beyond as well in various research institutions of more flexible nature.
The University is planning to integrate technological advancements in its curriculum to match up with the standard of the other universities. The University has now woken up to its constitutional responsibilities making special strategies to create a fruitful environment for inclusive education.
